Drewell Family Extended Family Session at The Lodge at Sea Island

There is something timeless about family photographs beneath the iconic Avenue of Oaks at The Lodge at Sea Island. The sweeping live oaks, winding branches, and Spanish moss create one of the most beautiful backdrops on the Georgia coast, and the Drewell family’s extended family session there felt especially meaningful.

With grandma, grown children, and little grandchildren all together, the evening was filled with laughter, movement, and the kind of candid moments that make extended family sessions so special. The younger cousins ran beneath the trees, twirled through the grass, and kept everyone smiling the entire session. Those playful interactions always become some of the most treasured images years later.

One of my favorite parts of photographing extended families is capturing the connection between generations. The quiet moments between grandma and grandchildren, siblings laughing together, and parents soaking in these fleeting stages of childhood all tell such an important story. The Drewell family embraced every bit of it naturally and joyfully.

The Avenue of Oaks near The Lodge creates such a classic Lowcountry setting with its incredible scale and soft evening light filtering through the branches. It’s one of those places that feels peaceful the moment you step into it and photographs beautifully in every direction.

Sessions like this are a reminder of why documenting family legacy matters so much. These images become more valuable with every passing year, especially when multiple generations are together in one place.

It was such an honor to photograph the Drewell family during their time at Sea Island and preserve this season for them in such a meaningful setting.
