Telfair Museum Surprise Proposal | JT + Mary Alex

There’s nothing quite like a surprise proposal… especially when the bride-to-be almost ruins the surprise by deciding she doesn’t want to go. 😂

John Tyler “JT” Exum had planned the sweetest proposal for Mary Alex Carter at the Telfair Museum in downtown Savannah. Everything was ready, the plan was in place, and there was just one tiny problem: Mary didn’t want to go.

Thankfully, her friends knew what was happening behind the scenes and weren’t about to let that happen. When it became clear that Mary might not cooperate with the plan, a friend handed her an envelope JT wrote her and basically told her it was time to put on a dress and go. At that point, Mary had a feeling something was up!

JT chose one of the museum’s gorgeous galleries for the proposal, surrounded by artwork and that incredible blue room. He got down on one knee in front of the bright yellow settee, and of course, Mary said yes!

Afterward, we wandered through the museum for their newly engaged portraits. The Telfair is such a fun location for a proposal because every gallery feels completely different. We went from colorful rooms filled with artwork to the museum’s bright white galleries, and we even had a quiet moment sitting together taking in one of the paintings.

And yes, we had to document the fact that Mary’s green dress—which she almost didn’t put on—ended up looking absolutely perfect against all of those museum colors. 😂

Congratulations, JT and Mary Alex! I’m so glad your friends made sure you got out the door that day.

Planning a Telfair Museum Surprise Proposal in Savannah?

The Telfair Museum is such a unique option for couples who want something a little different from the traditional Savannah proposal locations. Between the historic architecture, beautiful galleries, artwork, and colorful interiors, there are so many incredible backdrops without ever leaving the museum.

If you’re planning a surprise proposal in Savannah, I’d love to help you figure out the details, choose the perfect location, and make sure the moment is beautifully documented.
